Cars 2

I took the kids to opening night of Cars 2 and fell in love with the writers.  The plot revolved around the World Grand Prix race that took place in 3 countries around the world:  Japan, Italy, and England.   They flashed various landmarks from each location such as Mount Fuji, the leaning Tower of Pisa, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and even showed some maps.

With a theater full of toddlers, kids, and their parents, I started to think about the possibilities of continuing learning about those countries while at home.   There was even a scene where a character was raking a zen garden.  This is pretty easy to duplicate at home.  Just use some sand or white rice and grab some rocks from outside.   Then use a fork to rake various patterns.

Hats off to the makers of Cars 2 for incorporating geography education in a movie that is sure to be played over and over again in family rooms across the world!
